Study: Drinking Alcohol Now and Then May Not Hurt Your Long-term Sexual Performance

Although conventional wisdom tells us that drinking inhibits sexual performance, there is new research that shows moderate drinking could actually help our sexual activity -- in the long run.

The study cited by the Journal of Sexual Health doesn't tell us why alcohol seems to hinder erectile dysfunction, but antioxidants may have something to do with it. Just like red wine protects you against heart disease, moderate drinking of certain kinds of alcohol over a long period may bolster your system against impotence.

Researchers want to see more information on the link, but one idea is that ED and heart disease are similar, so antioxidants fight them in similar ways.

Whatever the connection, researchers are quick to point out: It's not a good reason to start drinking.
